Mohammed Nabelsi
Anyone looking to take a little off the top of their commute time can book a haircut at Alnabelsi Barbershop.
However, Mohammed Nabelsi opened Halifax’s first mobile barbershop with a specific clientele in mind.
“I noticed that many people have difficulty getting to the barbershop,” he says, “whether due to health reasons, disability or a busy lifestyle.”
So now he takes his business to their doorstep in a custom-outfitted van equipped with all the essentials—a sink, dryers and a barber chair. There’s even a wheelchair lift attached to the back.
Having been helped by so many people around me…it gives me great pleasure to be able to serve the community I live in.
Mohammed Nabelsi, Founder of Alnebelsi Barbershop.
Nabelsi spent two years building his mobile business, conceived after the barbershop where he previously worked closed during COVID-19 lockdowns.
It’s not the first time he started fresh. When he emigrated from Syria in 2019, many people helped him settle in and get his business rolling, he recalls, and now he seeks out opportunities to do the same for others. Each week, he makes special trips to Shelter Nova Scotia, in Halifax, to offer free haircuts to those in need.
We’d love to hear about people doing great things in your community.
Send ideas and they could be featured in an upcoming issue.
