Oasis of the seas tour
The Oasis of the Seas, one of the largest cruise ships in the world, made a stop in Saint John, New Brunswick earlier this year.
The 10-time Tony-winning Broadway show, named “best musical of the decade,” almost didn’t get off the ground in Halifax, when the pandemic came calling.
Then, later, with the two leads aging out of their roles, artistic director Jeremy Webb had to start from scratch. But now he and the cast are ready.
The show took place from April - June.
In the middle of the ship lies Central Park, a green space filled with trees, flowers and plants, that employs 3 fulltime gardeners year-round on the ship. Other luxuries include lifeguarded pools, slides and hot tubs, and even a stage for aquatic performances.
If the water is not for you, there’s even an ice rink where skates can be rented by day, or you can catch ice capades performances by night.
I had the opportunity to tour this amazing floating city with my colleague Becca while it was in port. Everywhere we looked there was something new and innovative. Details like the day of the week in the elevator so when experiencing that vacation bliss, you’ll still know what day it is.
There’s also a unique wooden carousel that was carved in the State of Maine.
Of course, it's not just the ship itself that makes the Oasis of the Seas so special - it's also the incredible destinations it visits along the way. The ship made stops in cities like Halifax, Boston, and Portland. But it's Saint John, New Brunswick that has everyone talking.
For locals, the arrival of the Oasis of the Seas marks an exciting opportunity to show off their home city to visitors from around the world.
The ship's stop in Saint John early in the cruise season brought a boost to the local economy, with passengers eager to explore all the city has to offer. And with so much to see and do in Saint John, there's no doubt that the Oasis of the Seas will leave a lasting impression on all who visit.
